Ruth Morrow - Gestagangur

Material Change_ practices beyond the centre

Ruth Morrow is an Architect and a Professor of Architecture at Queen's University Belfast. She is a guest teacher at the Department of Design and Architecture at the Iceland University of the Arts and is teaching students in architecture. During her visit Morrow will also give a lecture open to the public.
In this lecture Ruth Morrow will discuss the practices she engages in that sit half within, half without academia and architecture. Her work covers a spectrum of socially engaged practice and radical material development, all within the context of post-conflict, pre-brexit Northern Ireland. She will discuss the special role that architectural education can play in any given context - as a ‘Spaces of Rehearsal’ - not just for students but for those who surround and are connected to and through, architecture courses. She argues that architecture is whatever the architect does, so this lecture is especially for those who have ever doubted their place in architecture, but also for all others interested in the role of architects and architecture.
The lecture will be 6th of March at 12:15 in lecture hall A, Þverholt 11.
It will be in English and everyone is welcome!
