Í landslagi Vestmannaeyja birtist þessi sögn á áþreifanlegan hátt, þar sem náttúran sjálf ber vitni um eyðileggingu en einnig um endurreisn. Í eldgosinu 1973 stækkaði eyjan um tvo ferkílómetra og þetta nýja land hefur að mestu verið ósnert síðan. Leiðarstefið verður andstæða forna móbergsins í norðurklettum eyjunnar og hins nýmyndaða lands, þar sem afsteypa af móbergi flytur brot af eldri jarðsögu inn í hið nýja og skapar um leið samtal milli fortíðar og framtíðar, tíma og rýmis. Verkefnið er verbúð fyrir tuttugu farandverkamenn í jarðefnaiðnaði. Að vinna efni úr jörðu og móta þau til uppbyggingar skapar beina hugmyndafræðilega tengingu við bygginguna.

In the landscape of the Westman Islands, this sentiment manifests in a tangible and contested way, where nature carries the physical marks of both destruction and renewal. The 1973 volcanic eruption expanded the island by two square kilometers creating a territory that has remained largely untouched. The contrast between the ancient tuff of the northern cliffs and this new formed land serves as the project’s guiding theme. Incorporating a cast of the tuff brings fragments of older geological history into the new, a dialogue is established between past and future, time and space. The project provides residence for twenty migrant workers in the mineral extraction industry. The act of extracting materials from the earth and shaping them for construction establishes a direct connection between the workers craft and the architecture itself.
