Miðhús

Byggingin rís úr hrauninu þar sem bærinn hvarf árið 1973 en undir yfirborðinu lifa enn hús, götur og minningar sem hafa dregið sig í hlé. Verkefnið leitast við að nálgast þessa földu sögu, ekki með því að afhjúpa hana strax, heldur með því að leiða vegfarandann niður, nær því sem liggur undir.

Í lægð í landslaginu mótast rýmislegt ferðalag þar sem hreyfing og jarðvegur fléttast saman. Byggingin verður hluti af þessari hreyfingu, hluti af landinu sjálfu. Hér er mynduð verbúð fyrir þá sem grafa og rannsaka, tímabundið heimili og vinnustaður þar sem fortíð og nútíð mætast í sama jarðlagi.

The building emerges from the lava where the town vanished in 1973, yet beneath the surface, houses, streets, and memories remain dormant. The project seeks to engage with this hidden history, not by immediate exposure, but by guiding the visitor downward, closer to what lies beneath.

Within a natural depression in the landscape, a spatial journey unfolds where movement and earth intertwine. The architecture becomes part of this motion, it becomes an extension of the land itself. This is a residence for those who excavate and explore; a temporary home and workspace where past and present converge within the same geological strata.
