The building rises from the lava where the town disappeared in 1973 but beneath the surface still survive houses, streets and memories that have retired The project seeks to approach this hidden history, not by exposing it immediately, but by leading the passerby down, closer to what lies beneath.
In a depression in the landscape, a spatial journey is formed where movement and soil intertwine The building becomes part of this movement, part of the land itself. Here is formed a shelter for those who dig and study, a temporary home and a workplace where past and present meet in the same stratum.

Within a natural depression in the landscape, a spatial journey unfolds where movement and earth intertwine. The architecture becomes part of this motion, it becomes an extension of the country itself. This is a residence for those who excavate and explore; a temporary home and workspace where past and present convert within the same geological strata.
