On this page you can find information about access in the school's buildings in Stakkahlíð, Laugarnes, Skipholt and Þórunnartún. Access to the buildings, and within them, varies and visitors are encouraged to look at the information carefully before visiting.  

Information is given on nearby bus stations, car and bike parking, entrances and signage for the disabled, but also discusses sensory accessibility, accessibility for blind and visually impaired people, hearing impaired and deaf people, as well as accessible grooming for all. 

However, it is noted that access is limited in some buildings and visitors are encouraged to contact the school before visits to ensure the necessary assistance.

Bus

Below you can find the main information regarding buses that go to the premises of the University of the Arts.

  • Stakkahlíð 

    Bus no. 11 stops at the stations “Háteigskirkj” and “Háteigsskóli. From both stations there are about 250m to the premises of the University of the Arts at Stakkahlíð.  

    The station “ Hlíðars” on Miklubraut is about 400m away and wagons no. 1, 3, 6, 13, 55 and 57. 

  • Laugarnes 

    Bus no. 12 stops at the stations “Laugalækur” and “LHÍ Laugarnes”. From both stations, there are about 150m to the school's premises in Laugarnes.  

    Bus no. 16 stops at the station “Kirkjusandur”, which is about 500m away.  

    Work is underway to build a footpath from Laugarnesvegur to the door of the building.  

  • Skipholt

    The station “Hátún” is about 500m away from the school premises in Skipholt. Chariots no. 2, 5, 14, 15 and 17 stop there.  

    The station “Háteigskirkj” is about 400m away. There stops carriage no. 12. Note that on this route there is a staircase, a gravel path and walking through large parking lots.  

  • Þórunnartún 

    Housing the school í Þórunnartún 2 is in between the stations  Cape SquareandRye bread makingwhich are for about 150m distance. There stop wagons No. 2, 4, 5, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17

Car and bicycle parking

  • Stakkahlíð 

    In the school premises at Stakkahlíð 1 there are two entrances.  

    Entrance to Stakkahlíð - Main entrance: 

    • One parking lot is marked for people with mobility impairments.
    • At the entrance there are several public parking lots.

    Entrance to Háteigsveg: 

    • 2 parking spaces are marked for people with mobility impairments.  
    • Enough public parking. 
    • 3 parking spaces at charging stations.  

    At the entrance there are parking spaces for bikes.  

  • Laugarnes 

    There are three entrances in the school premises in Laugarnes.  

    Main entrance on the west side: 

    • At the inside there are 2 parking spaces marked for people with reduced mobility.  
    • There are a number of public parking spaces at the entrance.  
    • There are parking spaces for bikes at the entrance 

     Entrance 2 on the west side:  

    • There are a number of public parking spaces at the entrance. 
    • At the entrance there are parking spaces for bikes.  

     Entrance on the east side: 

    • At the entrance is a fairly large gravel plan with a number of public parking spaces.  
    • There is one paved parking lot marked for people with reduced mobility.  
  • Skipholt 

    There are no public parking spaces at the school premises in Skipholt 31.  

    • Parking marked for people with mobility impairments is available in an access-controlled parking lot at the entrance to the concert hall. Access to the parking lot is from Brautarholt.  
    • During open events organized by the school, the gate into the parking lot is open.  
    • Guests who have booked meetings with staff and need access to the parking lot are asked to contact the person who calls the meeting.  
    • There is a bicycle frame at the lower entrance to the concert hall.
  • Þórunnartún 

    There are no car or bicycle parking spaces at the school's premises at Þórunnartún 2.  

Sensible access 


Lighting and acoustics are generally not good in the school premises, including the sentient people There are a lot of fluoride lights in the air and no sound attenuation in the corridors. Visitors are therefore encouraged to bring their own sound and light-damping equipment.  

Discreet spaces for students and staff are located in the school premises in Stakkahlíð and Laugarnes.

Aexchange rate for blind and visually impaired people and staff users

Unfortunately, the school's premises in Laugarnes and Þórunnartún 2 are not accessible to blind and visually impaired people and staff users without assistance. 

The school's premises in Skipholt 31 are partially accessible.

 In the school premises at Stakkahlíð 1, there are guide lines and warning boxes on the floor of the ground floor.  

On the ground floor, there is the school reception and the lecture rooms Bratti og Skriða.  

In order to arrive at the reception, you enter through an entrance from Stakkahlíð. There are steps and automatic doors that open out. 

In order to arrive in the lecture rooms, one enters through an entrance from Háteigsveg. There are automatic doors into the lobby and they open out From the lobby there are other automatic doors that open in the same direction There are no guideways in the lobby and there is a large and rough mat.  

Aexchange rate for deaf and hearing impaired people 

  • Generally, the school does not offer sign language or writing interpretation at the school's events.  
  • Guests who wish to bring an interpreter with them are asked to contact the school in time via the email address lhi @lhi.is so that facilities and lighting can be guaranteed for interpreters.  

Restrooms 

  • Stakkahlíð 

    In Stakkahlíð, toilets are accessible for everyone. The building is divided into Hamar, Enni, Múla and Klett, but currently the school has activities in Hamri and Enni.
    Hamar is the easternmost part of the building and is entered from Háteigsveg.

    In Hamri, toilets are available for people with mobility impairments on all floors, and those toilets are also marked as gender neutral. Trimmed kvk and kk are also on all floors. The school library and lecture halls are in Hamri.

    Enni runs to the west from Hamri The school reception is at the west end of Ennis, at the entrance from Stakkahlið. The first floor also has a dining hall, study counselling and an international office.

    Enni has restrooms on the first and third floors and not on the second floor. There is an elevator between floors. The restrooms are all gender-neutral. The restrooms are not accessible for people with mobility impairments, but it is a short distance to Hamar.

     

  • Laugarnes 

    In Laugarnes, all grooming is gender neutral.  There are three grooming options for people with mobility impairments:  

    • On the first floor of the main entrance. There is a door opener.  
    • Next to an elevator on the second floor.
    • At the end of the MA area on the second floor.  

    Hand wipes and mirrors on these trims are located high on the walls.

  • Skipholt 

    In Skipholt, all grooming is gender neutral.  

    The school's activities take place on three floors, ground floor, 3rd and 4th floor. Trimming for people with mobility impairments is on all floors but is inaccessible. On floors 3 and 4, there are thresholds that could be a barrier for some wheelchairs and heavy doors. On the ground floor there are no thresholds between the concert hall and accessible restrooms, but there is a heavy door that does not have a door opener.

  • Þórunnartún 

    In Þórunnartún, grooming is gender neutral. 

    No trims are easily accessible for people with mobility impairments A heavy door is into the toilet hallway and it does not have a door opener One trim is quite spacious and can be used by people using a walker or a compact wheelchair, with assistance.
