Lengi tekur sjórinn við – svo skilar hann / The sea receives for a long time – then it gives back.
Verkið fjallar um eilífðarefnin sem falla undir regnhlífarhugtakið PFAS-efni. Þessi efni berast út í sjó í gegnum óhreinsuð fráveitukerfi og finnast meðal annars í fiskinum á diskum Íslendinga. Þar sem fiskur er stór hluti af mataræði Íslendinga og ein mikilvægasta útflutningsvara þeirra, ferðast þessi efni frá hafinu og í blóðrás okkar. Verkefnið leitast við að upplýsa lesendur um PFAS-efni og afleiðingum þess að hleypa þeim í líkama okkar og umhverfi. Ef kerfið verður óbreitt, hvernig getum við fjarlægt þessi efni úr æðum okkar?
This work revolves around forever chemicals known under the umbrella term PFAS. These substances enter the ocean through untreated wastewater systems and are found, among other places, in the fish on our plates. As fish constitutes a significant part of the Icelandic diet and one of the country’s most important exports, these substances travel from the ocean into our bloodstream. The project seeks to inform viewers about PFAS and the consequences of allowing these chemicals to enter our bodies and the environment. If the system remains unchanged, how can we remove these substances from our bodies?
