Threads

The website ÞRÆÐIR is published by the music department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts and has the task of creating a platform, restraint and motivation for all kinds of research work related to music inside and outside the school.

Emphasis will be placed on an open forum, i.e. there will be great flexibility regarding the types of texts that the magazine contains. Short and long articles/texts will be received from various perspectives (academic, aesthetic, musing, statements (manifesto), artistic approaches/methods, discussions, evaluations, etc).

Suggestions may also be made regarding types of texts Subtitles will not be called for articles to emphasize the diversity of the journal.

The website strives to be a platform for:

  • Discourse about music in the Icelandic language
  • Communication of knowledge
  • Preservation of research

With the web publication, we want to increase the activity of research in the field of music, create new opportunities and incentives, and be a center of perspectives within music.

    Text length: 500 - 5000 words

    Text submission deadline: 2 March 2026 - Received: threads@lhi.is

    Text should be submitted as a .doc/docx file. Image files should be sent separately: 300dpi (.tif, .png, .jpg, .pdf))

    Submitted text criteria:

    • Types of texts: academic articles, discussion of compositions, artistic approaches, methodology, translations, artistic manifestos (statements), casual musings regarding the music work/teaching/art of the person or others.
    • The magazine is open to suggestions in each case regarding text types, and examples of reviews or reviews of books, CDs, concerts, festivals, etc. You could also think of source processing or interviews in video form or audio format.
    • Efforts must be made to activate several key concepts regarding the creation of texts and methods to create knowledge and understanding: „reflection“ or reflection (in practice or after implementation), review (of one's own art or that of others), relationships (finding relationships, creating relationships), context, and back-processing/process (what lies behind, environment, ahead).
    • Basic categories: composition/composer, musicology, musicology, performers/performance, other (criticism/discussion/judgment...)
    • Emphasis is placed on an open platform and great flexibility regarding the types of text and submitted content.
    • Authors are encouraged to take advantage of the publication's digital environment and add audio, video and video files.
    • The journal aims to include both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed material.
    • The website emphasizes the Icelandic language, but texts in English will also be received.
