According to the charter of the Halldór Hansen Scholarship Fund, one of its main goals is to provide an annual grant in the name of Halldór Hansen, one or two promising music students of the Iceland Academy of the Arts, who have achieved outstanding results in the opinion of the board of trustees In order to limit the selection of the scholarship fund, it was decided that only those music students who had just completed their first university level and were about to start their graduate studies abroad would be considered. The first grants were awarded for 2004 and have been awarded annually since then if left out in 2011, but no awards were given that year.
