Í fyrirlestri sínum við Myndlistardeild Listaháskóla Íslands mun myndhöggvarinn Matt Siegle fjalla um samspil hluta, líkama og landslags. Fyrirlesturinn beinist að hinu goðsagnakennda Ameríska vestri, eins og það birtist og umbreytist í gegnum hans eigin líkama sem hinsegin Bandaríkjamaður. Siegle mun ræða eigin verk í blönduðum miðlum í samhengi við önnur viðfangsefni, þar á meðal rusl, hinsegin nálgun á brons, verkið Lightning Field, viðbótarhöggmyndir (e. Addative sculpture), leiðir farnar í fólksflutningum, opinbera kynlífsstaði, Marlborough-manninn, kitsch, camp og örvæntingu.

Matt Siegle er listamaður sem vinnur með blandaða miðla og hefur flakkandi vinnustofu. Verk hans kanna tengsl hinsegin líkama og landslags. Siegle hefur sýnt verk sín víða um Bandaríkin og Evrópu, þar á meðal á Liste Art Fair Basel (Sviss), Getty Institute (Los Angeles) og Artists Space (New York), og hefur fengið umfjöllun í Artforum, The New York Times, Contemporary Art Daily og Mousse Magazine, ásamt fleiri miðlum. Verkefni hans ná einnig til ritstarfa og sýningarstjórnunar, og hann vinnur nú að bók sem fjallar um grundvallarforsendur hlutabundinna listverka. Siegle lærði erfðafræði í grunnnámi og lauk MFA gráðu í myndlist frá California Institute of the Arts. Hann kennir nú höggmyndalist og teikningu við Dartmouth College, þar sem hann hefur einnig starfað sem ráðgjafi Curatorial Fellowship Class of 1960.

In his talk at Iceland University of the Arts, sculptor Matt Siegle will discuss the interaction of objects, bodies, and landscapes. His talk focuses on the mythological American West as viewed and refracted through his own body as queer American. Siegle will discuss his own mixed-media work in relationship to other subjects including trash, queering bronze artwork, the Lightning Field, additive sculpture, migratory pathways, public sex sites, the Marlborough Man, kitsch, camp, and desperation.
Matt Siegle is a mixed-media artist with an itinerant studio practice. His work examines the intersection of queer bodies and the landscape. Siegle has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe, including Liste Art Fair Basel (Switzerland), the Getty Institute (Los Angeles), and Artists Space (New York), with coverage by Artforum, The New York Times, Contemporary Art Daily, and Mousse Magazine, among other outlets. His practice also includes writing and curatorial projects, and he is currently working on a book examining the fundamental propositions of object-based artwork. Siegle studied genetics as an undergraduate and received an MFA in Art from California Institute of the Arts. He currently teaches sculpture and drawing at Dartmouth College, where he has also served as the Class of 1960 Curatorial Fellowship Advisor.
