Hólar er verbúð staðsett milli Eldfells og Helgafells í jaðri Vestmannaeyjabæjar. Byggingin er lágreist og mótast af línum landslagsins, þar mynda tveir byggingarkjarnar skjól án þess að rjúfa tengslin við náttúruna og útsýnið yfir bæinn.

Á tímum aukins einmanaleika leitast verkefnið við að svara hvernig arkitektúr getur skapað rými til að vera einn án þess að upplifa einangrun. Á meðan dvalarrýmin opnast að kyrrð og ró landslagsins, hvetja sameiginleg svæði til náttúrulegra kynna og samveru. Markmiðið er að skapa jafnvægi þar sem íbúar geta dregið sig í hlé en fundið jafnframt til samhljóms við náið samfélag.

Hólar is a communal residency situated between the volcanoes Eldfell and Helgafell. The low-rise structure is shaped by the landscape’s contours, where two volumes provide shelter while maintaining a visual connection to the town and nature.

Addressing the rise of social isolation the project explores how architecture can facilitate solitude without isolation. The rooms open toward the landscape for reflection while shared spaces encourage spontaneous encounters.Hólar investigates the balance between withdrawal and belonging, creating a sanctuary where individuals can find stillness while remaining part of a close-knit community.
