Koffort er rými fyrir persónulegan farangur, fjölnota hlutur sem getur umbreyst í húsgagn en er líka birtingarmynd menningar, hefða og hugmynda sem ferðast milli staða. Veðurfarar frá Haiti koma sér fyrir í marglaga húsi sem eins og koffort heldur utan um menningararf og sögu. Fjölskyldan flytur með sér hugmyndina um “Lakou” sem er sambúðarform kynslóða sem varð til í kjölfar frelsisbaráttu sem andsvar við þrælahaldi og byggir á sjálfbærni, samstöðu og efnahagslegri einingu stórfjölskyldunnar. 

Húsið tekur á sig nýjar birtingarmyndir með afhjúpun þar sem náttúra, form og atvinnustarfsemi er endurheimt. Endurnýtt byggingarefni eru sett í nýtt samhengi og inngrip skapa ný tengsl og sjónarhorn.

A trunk is a space for personal belongings, a multifunctional object that can transform into furniture but is also a manifestation of culture, traditions and ideas that travel between places. The family from Haiti bring with them the concept of „Lakou,“ a form of intergenerational cohabitation that originally emerged after the fight for freedom as a response to slavery, based on sustainability, solidarity and the economic unity of the extended family. 

The family settles in a multi-layered house that like the trunk holds cultural heritage and history. The house takes on new forms through revelations where nature, form and economic activity are recovered, interventions where new openings create new connections and perspectives, recreation where recycled building materials are placed in new contexts and finally material blending where building materials are developed from the immediate environment.
