Nothing is hidden

Artist: Steinunn Marta Önnudóttir, 2nd year MA Fine Art student

‘Nothing is hidden’ is a contemplation on perspectives, values and veracity, operating in the field of expanded painting. In her work, Steinunn blurs the boundaries between painting, sculpture and installation. She experiments by exploring the dimensions of painting, allowing it to escape its two-dimensional flatness and become part of a three-dimensional environment. As a result, the works become a physical experience where one can walk around or even through them. Steinunn playfully spins associations between reality and staging and explores themes of deconstruction, illusion, origin, and imitation.

Steinunn lives and works in Reykjavík. She completed a BA in graphic design in 2009 and a BA in Audiovisual in 2011, both from Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Exhibitions include Green Growth at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Non Plus Ultra at Reykjavík Art Museum, Feigðarós at Kling & Bang and Skúlptúr Skúlptúr at Kópavogur Art Museum. Steinunn was nominated for the Icelandic Art Prize as Artist of the Year in 2022 along with Ragnheiður Káradóttir and Anna Hrund Másdóttir for the collaborative exhibition Feigðarós, and in 2019 she received the Svavar Guðnason and Ásta Eiríksdóttir grant for emerging artists. From 2014-2023, Steinunn ran the exhibition space Harbinger in downtown Reykjavík.
