SKANSI - Skjól undir Skansinum — SKANSI - Refuge embedded in the landscape

Verkið felst í hönnun verbúðar fyrir ungt starfsfólk baðlóns og hótels við Skansinn í Vestmannaeyjum. Byggingin rís ekki upp úr landslaginu heldur sekkur inn í það, hún breiðir úr sér og verður hluti af jörðinni, þar sem hún myndar skjól í skurðpunkti sjávar og hrauns. Eitt gólf, fimm rýmisrammar og samfellt þak skapa heild þar sem rými opnast og dragast saman. Hraunþakið hvílir yfir byggingunni og mótar varið útirými sem tengir inni og úti. Birtan fellur ofan frá og leiðir vegfarandann í gegnum rýmið. Skansi er bæði skjól og opnun í senn, staður fyrir samveru og kyrrð.

The project explores the design of accommodation for young staff working at a lagoon and hotel by Skansinn in Vestmanneyjar. Rather than rising from the ground, the building sinks into the landscape, spreading outward to become an extension of the earth and forming a sanctuary between the sea and the lava. A single platform, five spatial frames, and a continuous roof create a unified whole where spaces expand and contract. The lava rock roof rests above, shaping a protected transition space between the interior and exterior. Light descends from above, guiding the spatial journey. Skansi is both a refuge and an opening, a space for gathering and stillness.
