Design vs Data

Hver er framtíðin í hönnun? Ræður mennskan eða gervigreindin för? Manneskjur búa yfir innsæi og tilfinningum sem gervigreindin gerir ekki. Hins vegar býr gervigreindin yfir hraða og aðgengi að endalausum upplýsingum og gögnum. Gervigreindin er sífellt að taka meira pláss í hönnun. Design vs data er tilraun til að skapa umræðu um framtíð hönnunar. Verkið speglar ferla hönnuðar og gervigreindar. Í verkinu gegndi gervigreindin hlutverki hönnuðar og fékk nákvæmlega sömu upplýsingar og leiðsögn og mannlegi hönnuðurinn. Úr verða tveir ferlar sem spretta úr sömu upplýsingagjöf en annar er framkvæmdur af mannlegum hönnuði en hinn af rafrænum staðgengli hans – gervigreindinni.

What is the future of design? Will it be shaped by humans or by artificial intelligence? AI is increasingly occupying a larger role within the field of design. Humans have emotions that AI does not. However, AI has speed and access to vast amounts of data. Design vs Data is an experimental project that seeks to create a discussion about the future of design. The work can be seen as a set of mirrored processes of a designer and an AI. The AI was made to play the role of the designer and received the same information and feedback as the human designer. The result is two parallel processes emerging from the same information and input, but one is carried out by a human designer and the other by an electronic substitute – the artificial intelligence.
