Að setja sviðið / To Set the Scene

Leikhús er list augnabliksins. Hver sýning er einstök, en um leið og tjaldið fellur er hún horfin og verður aldrei aftur nákvæmlega eins. Eftir standa minningar, hljóð sem dvína, ljós sem slokkna og ummerki um það sem átti sér stað. Í bókverkinu er hefðbundinn sýningardagur í leikhúsi skoðaður frá tveimur sjónarhornum, áhorfenda og baksviðs. Tvö samhliða rými sem snerta hvort annað án þess að renna saman í eitt. Endurtekningin er kunnugleg, athöfnin sú sama, en það sem tekur við í salnum er aldrei eins. Á milli þessara rýma myndast spenna og bið, augnablik sem hverfa jafn hratt og þau birtast.

Theater is the art of the moment. Every performance is unique, but the moment the curtain falls, it is gone and will never be exactly the same again. What remains are memories, sounds that fade, lights that go out, and traces of what took place. In this book, a traditional performance day at the theater is examined from two perspectives, those of the audience and backstage. Two parallel spaces that touch each other without ever merging into one. The repetition is familiar, the act is the same, but what happens in the auditorium is never the same. Between these spaces, tension and anticipation arise, moments that vanish as quickly as they appear.
