The Future Is Now confronts the instability of visual truth in the age of AI. Kate Scott Stewart’s mixed-media installation invites viewers to question their perception and slow down their consumption of images. Set against the familiar backdrop of Icelandic experience, the exhibition employs subtle ambiguity and cognitive dissonance to reveal the influence of AI imaging technology on memory, perception, and the concept of reality. What feels familiar soon feels uncertain. Rather than showcasing AI’s potential, the project exposes its persuasive power and the collective vulnerability it reveals. It warns of a future that has already arrived, where digital media quietly rewrites our memories in real-time.

This interactive experience is a playful initiation to reunderstand human intuition and imagination through a mycelial framework: nonlinear, collaborative, and interdependent. It invites a shift from treating imagination as a tool for outcomes, to experiencing it as a living network of regenerative relationships. The process reveals how our invisible imagination weaves the material world together through symbols, language, and imagery. These interwoven threads of creative intuition echo mycelial patterns found in our ecosystems. Tending the soil of our imagination through a mycelial lens helps us recalibrate how we relate to imagination itself, how we move through the world, and how we make connections.
