The Iceland University of the Arts (IUA), in collaboration with MÍT and FÍH, presents a masterclass with percussionist Sebastian Notini on Saturday, February 28, from 13:00–15:00.
Everyone is warmly welcome.
The Swedish-born percussionist has lived in Brazil for over 25 years, working with some of the country’s finest artists such as Milton Nascimento, Jorge Ben Jor, Virgínia Rodrigues, Luedji Luna, and Tiganá Santana. His work can also be heard both live and on recordings with African artists like Cheikh Lô and Oumou Sangaré, as well as Swedish singers Lisa Nilsson, Robyn and Marie Fredriksson.
Sebastian has a special connection to Iceland as the grandson of singer Maria Markan and son of drummer Pétur Östlund. For the first time, he will be hosting a workshop in Iceland to discuss rhythm and the keys to understanding musical languages-with a focus on Brazilian music-and share how he became one of the most recorded percussionists in the country. This workshop is open to all musicians and singers, regardless of experience. No previous knowledge is required; everyone is welcome!
