Memory Oil Spill

Cornelia Lind
Solo exhibition in Naflinn
Opening November 20th 17:00 – 19:00
———-

My paintings often begin with a layer of black, mimicking wet asphalt. A surface that reflects the memories that linger in the back of ones mind. From there, I work in a gradient of blues, greens, and pinks. One small drop of oil triggers the memory of iridescent oil spills. The personal symbolism of something so small that has the ability to flow so widely. Beautiful, yet harmful, spreading across the asphalt. A fleeting moment, a fragment of the past resurfacing, growing bigger, taking over my mind.

Through painting, I rework these fragments into something tangible, using collected objects and photographs as anchors for recollection. I piece together the now and then. Often working on unstretched canvas, I let the colour bleed beyond the frame, allowing the memory to spill into the space of the present.
