Íslenski leirinn er frábrugðinn flestum öðrum leir. Leirlistamenn blanda gjarnan öðrum efnum við hann til að gera leirinn meðfærilegri. Í þessu verkefni er hins vegar nýst við hreinan íslenskan leir sem efnivið. Hann er sóttur í jarðveg á völdum svæðum og unninn á staðnum. Útbúinn er munur sem efnisgerir tengslin á milli umhverfis, jarðsögu og þess svæðis sem leirinn kemur frá. Hönnun speglar hvar og hvernig munurinn var gerður. Með lágbrennslu eða án brennslu myndast rými fyrir tilraunastarfsemi en einnig tækifæri til þess að skila muninum og þar af leiðandi leirnum aftur í jarðveginn – og þannig er komið í veg fyrir að hann ummyndist í manngerðan stein. Við ferlið myndast tenging á milli einstaklings og leirs.

Icelandic clay is different from most other clays. Ceramists observe that it may be prone to breaking due to its distinctions, prompting them to blend it with other substances to enhance its ‘workability’. In this project, however, pure Icelandic clay is unspoiled as material. It is removed from the soil in selected areas and manipulated at its original location. The object made creates a conversation between the environment, geological history and location. The design represents how and where it was created. By using low or no firing, a space is created for experiments and the chance to return the clay to its original state instead of turning it into a manmade stone. During the process, a connection is formed between a persona and the clay.
