Hvaðan sprettur frásögn? Brotlending er frumsamið verk um félagana Albert og Bezóar sem brotlenda geimskipi sínu á ókunnum stað og þurfa að leggja í afdrifaríkt ferðalag til að finna leiðina heim.   Verkið er sjónrænt tilraunaverkefni sem rannsakar mótun frásagnar í heimi teiknimyndasagna. Í verkefninu kanna ég hvernig viðfangsefni sagnanna getur haft áhrif á form þeirra og hvernig útfærslan getur á móti haft áhrif á þróun sögunnar.  

Umbrot bókarinnar kallast á fræðilegu máli leporello eða harmonikku brot. Sagan getur með því lagst á eina órofna blaðsíðu frá upphafi til enda og myndað eins konar refil. Í Brotlendingu leggst landslag sögunnar á þennan refil og myndar grundvöll frásagnarinnar. Yfir refilinn leggjast rammar með skilgreindari senum sem vefa frásögnina í eina heild.

Where does a narrative begin?  

Brotlending is an original story about the companions Albert and Bezóar, who crash-land their spaceship in an unfamiliar place and must set out on a fateful journey to find their way back home.    

The project is a visual experiment that explores the formation of a story within the world of comic books. In the project, I examine how the subject matter of stories can influence their form, and how the execution, in turn, can affect the development of the story.  

The book’s format is what is known as a leporello or an accordion fold. This structure allows the story to unfold across a single, unbroken page, creating a kind of tapestry. In Brotlending, the landscape stretches along this tapestry, forming the foundation of the narrative. Over this landscape, frames containing more defined scenes are laid, weaving the story into a unified narrative.
