About the program

The Actors' Program is a three-year program of 180 credits that culminates in a Bachelor of Arts degree in performing arts. The program takes place in Icelandic.

The program brings students a diverse approach to the actor's art Emphasis is placed on training body, voice, and creative thinking through the methods and techniques of the performing arts In the program, students learn the actor's theory and art history with an emphasis on the performing arts.

Students face technical, ideological and artistic challenges that prepare them for work in the actor's professional field and/or ongoing studies.

Study structure

The foundations of the acting program are drama interpretation, practical techniques, and theory, as well as students being steadily provided with insight into the professional environment of performing arts In the play interpretation courses, students acquire skills and knowledge in different methods of play interpretation In the technical courses, voice acting, movement, and singing are taught, which supports and intertwines in all the actor's work In academic courses, students gain knowledge and understanding of the historical and societal context of performing arts, enhance their awareness of the profession, and the actor's mission to the audience and society.

In acting studies, emphasis is placed on students' creativity, critical thinking and open-mindedness. In the program, drama is brought into conversation with the contemporary and other arts, which provides students with the opportunity to collaborate and dialogue with students from other school programs.

The Performing Arts Department has good cooperation with both national and foreign art institutions, festivals and independent artists.

Students complete their studies with a graduation project and a final thesis.

After completing his studies

Students who have completed an acting course at LHÍ have created the opportunity to work as actors in professional theaters and the independent performing arts scene both in Iceland and abroad. The program also prepares students well for continued studies at the master's level.
