The aim of the final project is to submit a draft of a new textbook for beginners in clarinet studies, and it is entitled Ready for clarinet. There has been a lack of Icelandic curriculum for students in clarinet playing, but the book is intended to fill the void that has long been present when it comes to actual textbooks for young clarinet students. The theoretical basis and environment of music education that the book is written with regard to can be discussed, in particular, the private teaching form in instrumental learning, the focus of modern school society on creative aspects, the methods of guided learning (the methods of guided learning)e. formative assessment) used to promote students' self-responsibility and the role of textbooks in the teaching of musical instruments for beginners.
The aim of the textbook is threefold. Firstly, it is to prepare actual teaching material in Icelandic, which takes into account the Icelandic learning environment and musical culture. Secondly, it is that the book is sustainable and does not have to look beyond it to meet the requirements for a diverse approach in music education. It consists in touching on the creative aspects stipulated by the main curriculum of music schools (2000), such as improvisation, composition and play by ear, and in addition, all songs are set within the textbook. Thirdly, the aim of the book is to provide students and teachers with the opportunity to use the methods of guided learning in a targeted way, and this is primarily done through projects that contribute to regular goals and self-assessment of students, as well as active dialogue between teacher and student about the progress of the study.
A needs analysis was also carried out on study material for beginners in clarinet studies and it consisted of an analysis of the study material that already exists and a questionnaire that was submitted to working clarinet teachers. The results showed that there is a fairly urgent need for a new Icelandic textbook in clarinet playing.
