Real skills assessment in undergraduate studies at the Iceland Academy of the Arts
Practical skills assessment aims to make it easier for people in the labor market who have work experience to study and acquire rights in a shorter period of time. In this way, it is better to meet the needs of society and the labor market.

Why practical skills assessment?
Practical skills assessment provides recognition of knowledge through which a person acquires
jobs, studies and daily life. Knowledge may have been created through courses,
social work or work experience. By undertaking a practical skills assessment, individuals can shorten
study time, which can both reduce stress and increase motivation for further studies.

For the 2025-2026 school year, practical skills assessment is offered in:

  • Certain courses in graphic design
  • Certain courses in fashion design

Conditions for applying for practical skills assessment:

    the practical skills assessment.
  2. The applicant sends the following data to the project manager.
    • Resume
    • Screening list
    • Certificate from employer
  3. When the project manager has confirmed the data, the applicant goes to an interview with the study center

About Practical skills assessment
In the fall of 2023, preparations began at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in collaboration with other universities to formulate a joint evaluation process that will be useful to all universities in the country for practical skills assessment to shorten studies.
The project is also carried out in collaboration with the Employment Training Center. Assessors take courses and receive certification in the implementation of practical skills assessment.
