I grew up around Colombian Wayuu bags Later in my life I discovered Icelandic patterns and symbols The Wayuu patterns, called kanaas, and traditional Icelandic ornamental symbols are visual languages that draw from nature, history and everyday life In that light, I began to think of craft traditions as a way to preserve culture - and memories Through printing techniques such as silkscreening, fabric christ and woodcreening, I get these two visual traditions to talk to and create new images that reflect my experience of living between Colombia and Iceland. The repetition and imperfection of traditional printing techniques become ways to explore cultural connections, migration, identity and what it means to belong.
This project explorations questions of belief through analogue printing and craft traditions. Growing up around Colombian Wayuu bags and later discovering Icelandic texts published in nature, history, and everyday life. Through printing technologies such as serigraphy, linocut, and woodcut, I bring these traditions into dialogue, developing new agreements that reflect my research and practice, and research projects that research and practice, Iceland, and research, and research.
