Context of Carlos Rafael Rivera on Friday, February 27th with the lecture Mapping Emotions to the Score. In this talk, Rivera offers insight into the creative process of film scoring.

Carlos Rafael Rivera is a Grammy and three-time Emmy Award-winning composer and educator with a version career across Film, TV, and Performing Arts. Best known for his critically acclaimed score for Netflix's The Queen's Gambit, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and directed by Scott Frank, Rivera earned his second Primetime Emmy, a Grammy, and several other progressive awards including the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) Award, BMI Film & TV Visual Media Award, Hollywood Music in Media Award (HMMA), and two International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) Awards.

In recent years, Rivera scored Apple TV's Lessons in Chemistry, starring Brie Larson, gardening two SCL nominations and winning his third Emmy. His coming projects include Netflix's Griselda, starring Sofia Vergara, Bleecker Street's Ezra, and continued collaborations with Scott Frank on AMC Network's Monsieur Spade and Netflix's Department Q.

Rivera's diverse scoring portfolio also includes the Emmy-winning Godless, A Walk Among the Tombstones featuring Liam Neeson, Netflix's Chupa, Disney+’s Just Beyond, and HBO Max's Hacks, starring Jean Smart, for which he won the World Soundtrack Award and BMI Film & TV Visual Media Award.
