Allocation from the LHÍ research fund 2025
The board of the research fund of the Iceland Academy of the Arts has completed the allocation of grants for 2025. The board of the fund for the working year 2025 -2026 consists of Peter Jónasson, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Music, Katrín María Káradóttir, professor at the design department, and Steinunn Knuts-Önudóttir, Doctor of Performing Arts and External Representative The total allocation of the fund amounted to 5 million ISK this time.
Total received 15 applications this year, from the school's five departments:
  • Department of Design: 7 applications
  • Department of Fine Arts: 2 applications
  • Music Department: 2 applications
  • Film Department: 2 applications
  • Department of Art Education: 2 applications
The mission of the Foundation is to support the research of permanent academic staff with a research ratio and to promote the development of knowledge in the academic field of art The Academy of Arts conducts a wide range of research, working with a variety of materials, forms and media Strong research work is the basis of knowledge creation, ideological renewal and artistic approach. Respect for different approaches, subjects and representations is served. With this, the Academy of Arts wants to strengthen the research culture of the school and increase the quality of the research that takes place there.
Grants were awarded for the following research projects:
  • Adam Flint Taylor, assistant professor at the Department of Design – Archiv of political graphic design
  • Katrín Ólína Pétursdóttir, dean of the Department of Design – Skagafjörður material heritage - steel, rock and reuse of materials in design
  • Gunndís Ýr Finnbogadóttir, associate professor at the Faculty of Art Education – Unstable country
  • Hildur Bjarnadóttir, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts – Scale and rhythm
  • Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir, associate professor at the Faculty of Film Arts – Selected scenes from films and plays, for use in directing instruction
  • Birna Geirfinnsdóttir, professor at the Department of Design – Research on the graphic design of Harðar Ágústsson
  • Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir, visual artist and doctoral student – Shadow vacuum cleaner
  • Einar Torfi Einarsson, professor at the music department – Indiscriminate time: other time beings and settings beyond the octave
