Visual artist Ívar Valgarðsson will discuss the exhibition Ocean/Ocean which was set up in Reykjanesbær Art Museum in 2025 as well as other exhibitions The exhibition Úthaf was specially created for Reykjanesbær Art Museum, but the trigger for the work has begun that surrounds Reykjanesbær and the effect of light and weather on its shades. Ívar emphasizes simplicity, clean material and the direct experience of the viewer, which is manifested in the way photographs and paintings are presented as one spatial unit. Ívar's works rest on the legacy of concept art and minimalism and ask pressing ontological questions about the nature of art and the material world.
Ivar Valgarðsson (b. 1954) has been a working visual artist since the 1970s He studied at Iceland's School of Art and Handicrafts 1971 - 1975 and later in the Netherlands, where he developed the ideological approach that has characterized his career. Ívar works primarily with installations and photographs and video, where he studies the nature of objects, time, materiality and perception. His works tend to be based on familiar materials that he puts into a new context, thus creating a poetic and meditative experience. Ívar has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Iceland and abroad.
