Musicology nuggets
Educational videos for music theory at the basic level
Musicology nuggets are videos that seek to introduce the concepts of music theory from the first steps and to the basic test in music theory. The videos are intended to be study materials and reference books for students in music, where each viewer can watch a video as often as they see fit in order to gain a good understanding of its content. The videos will be uploaded to the streaming service YouTube, where access to them is easily obtained, and can be easily found if the concepts of music theory are sought on the Internet.
In this project I outline my preparation for the production of „Tónfræðamola“,
educational videos that introduce the concepts of the music writing component of the Main Curriculum of Music Schools to the Basic TestI base my work on the results of research on the use of videos in teaching that suggest that very short and concise videos, which use graphical and acoustic elements to communicate information, produce the best results in teaching.
In order to achieve the goals of clarity and length, I break down the music writing component of the Main Curriculum of Music Schools into many elements that can be designed around videos that each take less than five minutes to watch. I create a test video to build a practical understanding of all the corners of video production, from script to upload to the Internet. The process of making the test video is so carefully written down, where I go over every step of the production, and then count what went well, what went wrong and how ongoing work on making the videos could take place.
I hope that videos like this will be a good support for music studies in Iceland, both inside and outside the classroom, and increase access to and interest in musicology in future musicians.
