Borrowers
LHÍ's library is open to everyone. LHÍ students and staff are borrowers free of charge, while others can become borrowers of the museum by paying an annual fee according to tariff upon presentation of IDs Graduated students get free access to the museum for one year after graduation. Borrower rights may be renewed if the borrower is debt-free to the museum. Borrowers who have defaulted heavily may risk losing their credit rights and the right to renew the publications they borrow until they have settled.

Borrower's Liability

  • The borrower is fully responsible for all materials borrowed on their account.
  • If borrowed material is lost or damaged, the library reserves the right to charge compensation or replacement costs.
  • Borrowers are kindly requested to respond promptly to notices regarding overdue library materials.

Loan periods

  • Books 14 days
  • Sheet music and playscripts 30 days
  • Journals and magazine 3 days
  • Videos are for in-library use only
  • Course reserve materials are loaned for 3 or 7 days
  • In special circumstances, for example due to teaching, you can get various manuals of the museum for short-term loans (1-3 day loans) by agreement. Encyclopedias, dictionaries, road signs and other such reference books are not loaned out.

Loan renewals:

  • Loans may be renewed provided that no other borrower has placed a hold on the item.
  • Borrowers may renew their loans twice through Leitir.is.

Items on hold

  • Borrowers may place holds on materials themselves through Leitir.is or request that an item currently on loan be reserved for them. The borrower will be notified when the item is available for collection.
