The opera Hansel and Gretel is based on the well-known Grimm's fairy tale about two siblings who get lost in the forest and end up in the clutches of a wicked witch who lures children to him with a house made of cakes and sweets With courage and snare, the siblings manage to defeat the witch and free all the children she had captured.
Students have worked on the production this winter under the guidance of Anna María Tómasdóttir and Matthilda Anna Gísladóttir, together with the department's singing teachers.
In recent years, the singing students of the Iceland Academy of the Arts have organized diverse and ambitious opera performances and thus had a valuable opportunity to take on both larger and smaller roles and get to know the diverse styles of the opera art form.
