Context: Clockworking
In the talk, María Huld will discuss a creative journey by looking at the interior of the work Clockworking - How a small theme from prisoners' work singing becomes a work for a baroque trio and electrodronics, a video work, and then an orchestral work She will tell about the composition's conceptual background, working methods and examine how it developed from the original version of the work to a large orchestral version.
María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir is a violinist and composer who has worked in various fields of art from a young age. She studied violin at Reykjavík School of Music and Reykjavík School of Music, from where she graduated with a soloist degree in violin in 2000. In the fall of 2003, she began composition studies at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and graduated in the spring of 2007 with a bachelor's degree in composition and new media. María has been a member of the band ami for many years, as well as working closely with the band Sigur Rós. She has performed music with the ami around the world, as well as having participated in the co-creation of works of art across media with different groups of artists. In recent years, María Huld has written a number of works for bands, chamber groups, choirs and soloists. Her works have been performed around the world and most of them have been recorded for publication by the American music label Sono Luminus.
