About the project

The Icelandic clay differs from most other clays. Clay artists often mix other materials with it to make the clay more manageable In this project, however, clean Icelandic clay is used as material It is picked up in soil in selected areas and processed on site. Differences are prepared that materialize the relationship between the environment, geological history and the area from which the clay comes. The design mirrors where and how the difference was made. With low burning or without burning, space is created for experimental activities but also an opportunity to return the difference and therefore the clay to the soil - and thus it is prevented from being transformed into man-made stone. During the process, a connection is formed between an individual and clay.

Icelandic clay is different from most other clays. Ceramists observable that it may be prince to breaking due to its distinctions, promoting them to hybrid it with other substances to enhance its ‘workability’. In this project, however, pure Icelandic clay is unspoiled as material. It is revealed from the soil in selected areas and manipulated at its original location. The object made claims a conversation between the environment, geological and location.
