We present a new MA program in Performing Arts with a specialization in playwriting, directing, stage writing or choreography.
İSTHÁM
MA in Theatre and Performance is a two-year programme designed for contemporary theatre and performance makers interested in enhancing their skills and knowledge in playwriting, directing, performance making, or choreography. Students choose one of these specialities at the start of their studies and specialize within that field.
In the first year, students gain knowledge and skills within the performing arts and develop their artistic methods In the second year, the focus shifts to individualized research and artistic creation of students as they develop their artistic thinking and competence. Emphasis is placed on promoting students' critical and creative approach to the medium, combining theory and practice, and creating diverse perspectives that challenge and deepen students' artistic thinking.
Each student develops their own methods and approaches in the performing arts through different courses, artistic projects and research, peer assessment, mentoring systems and public events At the end of their studies, each student develops an independent final project based on their own field of expertise Students graduate with 120 ECTS credits, ready to apply for a doctoral program in artistic research or work as independent performing artists.

Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 17:00-18:00 we offer a presentation of the program in the LHÍ lecture hall in Laugarnes. Una Þorleifsdóttir, dean of the Faculty of Performing Arts, and Brogan Davison, professor and professional director of the MA program will be there, present the program and receive questions.
On the same day, Wednesday, January 14, 2026, applications open and the application deadline is Wednesday, March 2, 2026.
