In the Liminal Transmissions lecture, Anna Júlía will discuss the transformations and shifts of ideas, material and language In her experimental work, Anna Júlía examines human structure and natural systems, communication and relationships. She often creates contrasts with methods and implementations, and with different intersections of science, culture, contemporary and history.
Anna Júlía will also tell about her studio stay at Künstlerhaus Bethaninen in Berlin and at Artlab in the University of Central Lanchashire in the UK.
Anna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir (b.1973) studied art at the Manchester School of Arts, Manchester Metropolitan University, London Guildhall University and at Iceland's School of Fine Arts and Crafts. Her work has been shown around the world in group exhibitions and in solo exhibitions in Iceland, Germany and Finland. She was nominated for the Icelandic Art Prize in 2018 and received a grant from the Art Center for a year-long workshop stay at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin from 2022-’23. Her work can be found in the collection of the Reykjavík Art Museum, the Icelandic Museum of Art and Hafnarborg.
In the lecture Liminal Transmissions, Anna Júlía explorores the transformation and transfer of ideas, materials, and language. Through her experimental practice, she examples the structures of both natural and human-made systems, communication, and interconnectedness. Her work often engages with contrasts both in method and execution, drawing from science, cultural histories, and the intersections of past and present. Anna Júlía foundations at the Icelandic museum, and the International Center of Germany, 200, Iceland and the International Center of the International School of Art.
