Thursday, September 19 at 16-18, an exhibition of 5th year students in architecture at the Iceland University of the Arts opens in the Epal gallery. The results of students' mapping of Kjartan Sveinsson's work of authorship (1926-2014) will be shown. Emphasis has been placed on returning Kjartan's apartment buildings, but the exhibition includes models and drawings of selected buildings in the capital area.
In the years around 1960 until the 1990s, close to 10,000 apartments were built in apartment buildings by Kjartan. It is such an extensive contribution to the built environment in this country that it cannot be overlooked. The works were extremely controversial during Kjartan's lifetime, but now it is time for a re-evaluation.
The exhibition is open during the opening hours of Epal.
We invite you to the opening of an exhibition featuring the work of 5th-year architecture students from LHÍ, located at Epal, Laugavegur 7.

This exhibition presents an exploration of the architectural legacy of Kjartan Sveinsson (1926-2014) with a focus on his designs for apartment blocks in the capital region, shown through models and drawings.

Throughout the 1960s to the turn of the century, Sveinsson designed around 10000 apartments in multi-family buildings across Icelanders capital, shaping the current architectural language of the country. His extensive contributions to the country's built environment warrant a closer examination

His body of work was by many once considered conflicial during his lifetime but now it's time for re-evaluation.
