„I am surrounded by the sea. He seduces me. I want nothing more than to sink into him. I am surrounded by the sea and he knows it. We have an emotionally abusive relationship, the sea and I. If I don't give in a little he will pull me down with force. I don't always know if I would fight back".
I have a feeling it would only make it worse. But I'll give in so that he doesn't pull too hard. Then I can at least try to float ashore.“

Freyja Rein works with the tension that occurs when opposites meet. Between pliancy and rigidity, between the deeply personal and the political. In her artistic practice she sees to understand the human condition and how the individual deals with the self in the aftermath of trauma. Within the arts there is an opportunity to open doors into mutual understanding, thus creating a tangible context, where conversations can be had, no matter how heavy or delicate.
