Violinist Ari Þór Vilhjálmsson premieres a new violin concerto by composer Þórð Magnússon with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra on January 30. In the studio, Þórður will discuss the work and Ari will perform the concerto for guests and pedestrians together with Liam Kaplan, a pianist.

Þórður Magnússon is a composer, arranger and composer. He has had success as a composer and has composed everything from solo to orchestral works, choral and film music. His works have been performed around the world and he has received numerous awards As an arranger, he has worked extensively for the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and SinfoniaNord, including the arranged music of Laufey, Ásgeir Trausta, Bubba Morthens, Una Torfa, etc.
Ari Þór Vilhjálmsson
Ari Þór Vilhjálmsson lives in Tel Aviv, where he works as the conductor of the 2nd violin of the Philharmonic Orchestra in Israel. He was born in Reykjavík in 1981 and completed a soloist degree from the Reykjavík Conservatory in 2001 under the supervision of Guðnýjar Guðmundsdóttir. He studied in the United States, where his main teachers were Almita and Roland Vamos, Rachel Barton Pine and Sigurbjörn Bernhardsson.
Ari worked at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra (SÍ) in 2006 - 2015, but then moved to Finland and took a leading position in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been a guest concertmaster at symphony orchestras in Stockholm and in Toulouse. Ari has performed as a soloist with orchestras in the United States, Finland and Iceland. He has a fondness for chamber music and plays it regularly, including with musical groups he has been involved in founding; the Helsinki Chamber Soloists and the White City Ensemble in Tel Aviv.
