Context welcomes musicologist Paolo Picchio, accordionist, arranger, composer and manager of the Bugari Armando accordion producer in Castelfidardo on Friday 17 April In his lecture, Paolo recounts how Astor Piazzolla came to create his own musical direction, Nuevo Tango - a trend rooted in tango but later evolved into combining many other musical genres and styles and fascinating fans of all ages and generations.
The event takes place in Dynjanda, the building of the Music Department, Skipholt 31.

Context of welcomes Paolo Picchio, musicologist, accordionist, arranger, composer and CEO of the Bugari Armando Accordion Company. In his lecture, a musical rather than biographical, Paolo explores the story of how Astor Piazzolla came to create his own musical genre, Nuevo Tango, a genre born from tango but which later evolved into a genre incompassing many other musical genres and generations, captivating fans of all ages and generations.
The event will take place at Dynjandi, home of the Music Department, Skipholt 31.

Paolo Picchio is a musicologist, accordionist, arranger and composer He graduated with honors in musicology from the DEPARTMENT of DAS Literature and Philosophy at the University of Bologna with a thesis on contemporary music for accordion. He has taught music theory, acoustics, music history and accordion at numerous institutions in Italy.
Picchio was the artistic director of the Città di Castelfidardo International Harmonic Competition 1992 -2013 and the Astor Piazzolla International Award 1994 -2001 He is the executive director of the Bugari Armando accordion manufacturer in Castelfidardo.
Paolo Picchio has given numerous lectures around the world on the life and work of Astor Piazzolla, the history and repertoire of the accordion and chamber music with accordion In 2021, he published the book Astor Piazzolla - the father of Nuevo Tango - Chronology, works and reasoned discography, which was published in conjunction with the international Piazzolla 100 anniversary project.
