Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan is one of the most famous composers of our time and also works as a conductor around the world. His music is shaped by Scottish heritage, Catholicism, social awareness and strong connections with Celtic folk music, and is characterized by powerful rhythm and profound emotional expression.

MacMillan gained international attention with the work The Confession of Isobel Gowdie at the BBC Proms in 1990 and has since composed a number of orchestral works, choral works and solo concertos He was knighted in 2015.

During his visit to Iceland, he will manage concerts of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra on Dark Music Days in Eldborg, Harpa, where new Icelandic compositions will be premiered, as well as the Trombone Concerto (2017) by himself will be performed.
