Friday, December 5, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Welcome to the festival lecture, the last lecture in the open lecture series of the Faculty of Fine Arts in the fall of 2025. This time, Unnar Örn and Þórgunnur Þórsdóttir, co-directors of the Museum's board, will take the audience to visit the Museum Museum on Svalbard Beach. In an experimental guide to the museum's wonderland, Unnar and Þórgunn will provide an insight into the main collection of Icelandic folk art.

Following the lecture, a small Christmas will be held where cocoa and gingerbread will be served and guests will be encouraged to stop and enjoy the last hours of autumn At the same time, an exhibition opens the first years of master's students in art, Kveikjuþæðir in the department's galleries.

More about the collection: The Museum Museum, the main museum of Icelandic folk art, was founded on February 17, 1995, by the couple Níelsi Hafstein, an artist, and Magnhildi Sigurðardóttir, a psychiatric nurse. They have built a handsome exhibition facility consisting of the old children's school, which was also the parliament building of Svalbard district, and the Kaupfélagshúsin Gömlu-Búð, which was built in 1900 on Svalbardseyri but moved to the museum grounds in 2006 and renovated. These two respectable houses were then connected together with an elegant extension and the museum opened in its current form in 2007 with 10 halls of different sizes and a total of 474 square meters. The founders of the Museum have succeeded in three decades in bringing the folk art from the fringes into the center and also luring the schooled modern artists to a whole partnership.
