Recognition from halldór Hansen's scholarship fund was awarded for the nineteenth time on June 3rd, last and the ceremony was held in the Hall Kopa scales.

The fund has annually awarded recognition since 2004, with the exception of 2011.

Main objective the fund is supporting the development of the music collection of the Iceland University of the Arts, as well as providing funding for excellent music students within the ranks of the University of the Arts.

This year it was Steinunn María Þormar who received the fund's recognition. Steinunn María is completing a three-year study in BMus in singing at the Iceland University of the Arts and she received a grant of one million from the fund.

„It's a great honor and motivation for me to get this strength. I absolutely love to sing and play and I love music because it's a medium that has unifying power and a language that everyone understands“ steinunn María said about the grant.

On the occasion, selected musical performances were performed accompanied by Matthilda Anna Gísladóttir, adjunct professor at the department of music of the Iceland University of the Arts. Steinunn María sang a total of three songs and sthe fund's Turkish recipient from 2021, Áslákur Ingvarsson, performed two songs.

Magnús Lyngdal, deputy on the board of the Foundation, gave the talk Romantic Conflict: Brahms and Wagner and the „New German School“ of the 19th century.

Kristín Eysteinsdóttir, rector of the Iceland University of the Arts, said on the occasion: „Halldór Hansen's gift to the University of the Arts is of great value to us in many ways, materially of course - but no less to remind us of what matters in life: the art, the beauty of diversity and humanity. It is certain that Halldór's gift to the Iceland University of the Arts is a gift that continues to be given“.“

About the Fund

Halldór Hansen's scholarship fund operates under the wing of the Iceland University of the Arts.
