With joy and pride, we announce that the international piano competition and the summer course held last August will be held again in the summer of 2026.
The project is the result of a strong collaboration between WPTA and OPNA LHÍ, and has already attracted a lot of attention for its professional setting and exciting opportunities for young pianists.

The next competition and course will take place from 4 to 16 August 2026, and the piano competition itself will take place from August 14 to 16 in the Hall.
The name of the competition is „WPTA Iceland IPC26 & Summer Festival @ Hall Concert Hall & Iceland University of the Arts“ and we hope that this ambitious project will further establish itself in the coming years.
There are three categories and a total of ISK 500,000 prize money. (3500 euros) awarded for outstanding musical performers, Icelandic and foreign. The award is well sponsored by Tónastöðin and Steinway.
The application deadline for the competition expires on June 10, 2026.
Furthermore, an international summer course will be held in collaboration with the Open University of the Arts and the Kópavogur School of Music from August 4 to 16, 2026. The program will include masterclasses and student concerts in the Hall, where experienced artists and teachers share their experiences and knowledge with interested people at a young age.
The project is a unique opportunity for young pianists aged 10 -25 to participate in international competition and studies in Iceland and lay the foundation for further development in their art.

WPTA International Piano Competition and Summer Course to Return in 2026 in Collaboration with WPTA Iceland and Opni LHÍ.
We are proud and delighted to announce that the International Piano Competition and Summer Course, which took place this past August, will return in the summer of 2026. The project is the result of a strong partnership between WPTA Iceland and Opni LHÍ (the Iceland University of the Arts Open University), and has already guaranteed attention for its professionalism and exciting opportunities for young pianists.
The next competition and course will be held from August 4 to 16, 2026, with the piano competition itself taking place from August 14 to 16 at the Concert Hall.
Titled „WPTA Iceland IPC26 & Summer Festival @ Hallurinn Concert Hall & Iceland University of the Arts,“ this important event aims to further establish itself as a leading platform for young talent".
The competition is divided into three age categories, with total prize money of 500,000 ISK (3,500 EUR) awarded to outstanding performers, both Icelandic and international. The prizes are generously sponsored by Tónastöðin and Steinway. The application deadline is June 10, 2026.
In parallel, an international summer course will be held in collaboration with the Open University of the Arts and the Kópavogur Music School from August 4 to 16, 2026. The program includes masterclasses and student concerts at the hall, led by experienced artists and educators are able to share their knowledge and inspiration with the next generation.
This initiative is a unique opportunity for young pianists aged 10 -25 to participate in international-level competition and education right here in Iceland, and to lay a solid foundation for further artistic growth.
