The conference Hugarflug took place at the Iceland University of the Arts last weekend and was entitled Unstable Systems//Unstable Systems. The theme attracted a lot of attention and discussed how instability can be a driving force in art, design and architecture. Researchers, artists and scholars came together to examine how instability - whether manifested in technological systems, ecosystems, social systems or sensory experiences - can open up new ways of creation and critical thinking.

Instability was viewed as a force that can both disrupt dominant systems and create new norms The conference was a platform for diverse research and projects dealing with instability in different contexts - from artificial intelligence and interactive systems to societal transformations and political challenges.

Ellen Johanne Røed, Rector at Stockholm University of the Arts, gave the keynote lecture of the conference She is Professor of Film and Media Arts and leads the research project Image as Site. Røed has worked on the border between art, technology and ethical questions in artistic creation and has played a key role in the development of Nordic platforms for artistic and research work.

Over 50 participants from around the world, talks were given at the conference and about 200 guests download it, which makes Hugarflug 2025 the most crowded conference to date. The Hugarflug Committee would like to thank all participants and guests for their excellent participation and reception.

Hugarflug was held in fourteenth time this year and has established itself as an important forum for creative and critical discussion about research in the arts, design and related disciplines.
