Open Time/Lecture with Pierre David on Monday, December 2, 2024

On Monday, December 2, an open class/lecture will take place in Gróska, Vatnsmýri from 17:00 - 19:30 organized by the Department of Architecture of the Iceland University of the Arts and the Icelandic Association of Architects, where the French architect Pierre David will give a lecture called „Poetry moves away from the language of the concept to bring us closer to what it designs“ and a panel discussion with students and architects follows. Time is part of the course „Urban Lab - Borgarýn“ which second year students in architecture at the Iceland University of the Arts attend during the fall semester. Sahar Ghaderi and Karl Kvaran are in charge of the course. The lesson is open to everyone and those interested are encouraged to attend.

More about Pierre David:

After teaching for eight years at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Paysage in Versailles, Pierre David went on to teach landscape and architecture at Harvard GSD, Columbia University, and Rice University He has been a visiting professor at many other American institutions of higher learning, including Berkeley, UWM/Milwaukee, and Iowa State University.

In France he has taught at the École d'Architecture de Clermont-Ferrand and in Marseille. He has also held the position of professor at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Malaquais.

In 2003, he was a finalist in a design competition for a memorial field at the site of the World Trade Center in New York His project, „The Garden of Light“ (e. Garden of Light), placed second out of more than 6,800 submitted proposals and attracted widespread attention in both national and international media.

Working with Roland Castro and City-Linked, he also worked on the future Evry Métropole 2025 project for the Evry Center Essonne urban community On a completely different scale, he designed a city spade, „Six Senses“, at Place Vendôme in Paris in collaboration with Patrick Blanc, a plant wall expert.

He is the author of a book about the King's vegetable garden in Versailles published by Editions de la Martinière, Le Potager du Roi, with photographer Gilles Memet He was also editor-in-chief of the publication on the design and construction of Frank Gehry's Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris.

Since 2009, he has been an expert at the United Nations Development Programme for the two holiest cities in Islam in Saudi Arabia, Mecca and Medina. His studio at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris Malaquais works together with the Center Français de Jérusalem (CNRS), the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris and the Bezalel School of Architecture in Jerusalem to develop a concept of a „third country“ located between the green line from 1948 and the separation wall built in the 2000s between Israel and Palestine.

Today, he continues his projects both as an individual and within the group he founded, the Lateral Agency.

Open Session/ Lecture with Pierre David on Monday, December 2, 2024

On Monday, December 2, an open session / Lecture will take place at Gróska, Vatnsmýri, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, organized by the Department of Architecture of the Iceland University of the Arts and the Association of Icelandic Architects. French architect Pierre David will give a lecture titled „Poetry moves away from the language of the concept to bring us closer to what it designs“. Following the lecture, a panel discussion with students and architects will be held. The session is part of the course “Urban Lab - Borgarýn”, attended by second-year architecture students at the Iceland University of the Arts during the fall of the course is led by Sahar Ghaderi and Karl Kvaran. The session is open to the public, and everyone interested is educated to attend.

About Pierre David:
