The annual competition of Young Soloists ended yesterday, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, after the second round in Kaldalón. There, seven contestants performed before a five-member jury and three winners remain. The jury consisted of Sigrún Eðvaldsdóttir, violinist and chairman of the jury, Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson, artistic advisor to SÍ, Sigurður Bjarki Gunnarsson, cellist, Mathias Halvorsen, pianist and Guðrún Ólafsdóttir, singer.
Young soloists is a joint project of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and LHÍ, but the winners of the competition have the opportunity to perform a solo at Harpa's Eldborg Field together with the Symphony Orchestra. There were 19 applications for this year's competition and a group of participants was extremely diverse.
2025 Young Soloists Winners
Three soloists won this time and will therefore perform a solo with the symphony orchestra next April. Below you can see the names of the winners and the works they will perform.
