The Nordic Aesthetic Society holds its annual conference at the University of Iceland in collaboration with the Iceland University of the Arts. The Nordic Aesthetic Society has been operating since 1983 and has held annual conferences for years, which have been held in Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark, but this is the first time the conference has been held in Iceland. The association also publishes the magazine Nordic Journal for Aesthetics.
The theme of this year's conference is Aesthetics, ethics and relational being. Key speakers are environmental aestheticians Arnold Berleant, Emily Brady and Yuriko Saito, together with the art duo Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir & Mark Wilson. Berleant, Brady and Saito are among the leading scholars in the field of environmental aesthetics, and Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir and Mark Wilson are pioneers in shaping and applying contemporary art research methods to challenging subjects such as global warming and our relationship with the environment and other organisms.
Along with them, around 80 academics and artists from the Nordic countries and elsewhere will present and discuss their research. More information about the conference program can be found here, everyone is welcome to participate while space allows: https://heimspekistofnun.hi.is/is/nsae2024
