These women rose up against patriarchy and said stop. They had had had enough of the centuries-long gender inequality that was built into the social order. They were considered radical but gradually achieved change Not least when it came to societal attitudes but by the end of the decade, for the first time, a woman was nationally elected as president in the world.

In the book Those who dared, the story of female fighters who paved the way for future generations in the 1970s is highlighted. Emphasis is placed on introducing the Icelandic Red Sock Movement, the Women’s List and Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, reviewing their actions, methods and imagery. These women stood up against the patriarchy and said stop. They had had enough of centuries of the gender inequality that was built into the social order. They were considered radical, but ultimately their actions invoked change. Mainly what changed was social perception, but at the end of the decade, a woman was elected president for the first time in history.
