Eydís Kvaran is an Icelandic musician who has dipped her toes in various musical movements during her career. Eydís is a violinist at the core but has performed with the bands Ólafi Kram and Turtura on guitar, played the experimental instruments halldorophone and proto-long playing organized by Intelligent Instruments Lab and practiced live improvisation on violin. Eydís graduated from film studies at the University of Iceland in 2023 and this project is her ongoing research on the relationship between music and film.

Waves of Afkimanna

Waves of Extremity is an experimental short film with a horror twist where music is in the foreground. In it, the human being's relationship with the Icelandic landscape is studied and how it moves through the mountains. Connections and disconnections, mystery and attraction. Perhaps it is not always welcome. The project is based on improvisation as an artistic approach, music as the dominant method of storytelling, but through that artistic approach, the human being's relationship with the sublime forces of nature is examined. The footage was recorded on super-8 film and the music consists of free performances of violin, halldorophone and proto-long play. The human being is played by Natalia Ísfeld Mirrudóttir.
