A bookmark, ex libris, is a personal logo, printed and pasted or stamped on the inside or outside of a book's panel The logo can be mass-produced with the goal of marking the owner's books The marks are beautiful small works of art prepared by the owners or by artists This book is about the library collection of Ólaf F. Hjartar Librarian Olaf collected bookmarks for a long time and had a large library of Icelandic bookmarks When I got to know his library of books, which is preserved at the National Library of Iceland, I felt it was a shame that the marks were not on display I wanted to give them life outside the archive My grandfather's bookmark first interested me in ex libris and led me on this fun path This is my attempt to show what I find interesting and beautiful about their bookmarks and culture.

They are small, beautiful works of art created either by the owner or hired artists. This book shows the record was not on display there, and I want the beautiful beauty to meet my knowledge and sparkle.
