Sveinn Arnar Sæmundsson

Sveinn Arnar began studying piano at a young age at Skagafjörður's Music School with Stefán R. Gíslasyn. In 1994 he began studying organ playing at Akureyri's Music School with Birni Steinar Sólbergsson, and in the spring of 1999 he completed his 8th degree in organ playing, then under the guidance of Eythór Inga Jónsson. Sveinn Arnar studied church music at the National Church's Music School, where his organ teachers were Hörður Áskelsson and Björn Steinar Sólbergsson. He graduated with a cantor degree from there in the fall of 2006 and a solo course from the same school in the spring of 2010.

Arnar has attended courses in choir conducting and organ playing, both at home and abroad, including with Mathias Wager, Lasse Ewerlöf, Dan-Olof Stenlund, Hákon Leifsson and Guðmund Óla Gunnarsson. From 2002 to 2021 he was organist and choir director at Akraneskirkja, and since autumn 2021 he has worked as organist at Víðistaðar Church.

He has also conducted the Akraness Chamber Choir, Kalman's Choir, Heimi Men's Choir, Freyjun Women's Choir and Reykholt Choir.

Sveinn Arnar was named town artist of Akraness in 2012.
